A Cherished Partnership Is Born
We’re thrilled to partner with the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort to celebrate their 75th Anniversary with a very special Bear. This Bear honors the matriarch whose extraordinary life inspired the beloved Sound of Music story.
Both the von Trapps and Vermont Teddy Bear share a deep love for Vermont’s mountains, handmade craftsmanship, and traditions that warm the heart. It’s this shared connection to our beautiful state that makes this collaboration extra meaningful—and a perfect way to celebrate 75 years of music, family, and joy.
The Special Edition Maria von Trapp Bear captures Maria von Trapp’s essence in every stitch. Her dirndl-style dress, embroidered apron dotted with Edelweiss, and soft head scarf are inspired by the outfits Maria loved to wear every day. From her thoughtful details to her joyful presence, this Bear celebrates Maria’s bravery, kindness, and the musical legacy she shared with the world.
Bring home a piece of history and let her fill your home with a sprinkle of Alpine magic and plenty of cozy hugs.
The Story of Maria
Maria’s life was full of adventure, bravery, and music that could lift any heart. Born on a train to Vienna in 1905, Maria Augusta Kutschera faced a lonely childhood after losing her mother and being raised in a strict household. But a chance encounter with a Jesuit priest changed her path, leading her to the convent—and eventually into the hearts of the von Trapp family.
Sent to care for Captain George von Trapp’s ailing daughter, Maria found more than a purpose—she found love, family, and a life that would inspire a timeless story. She married the Captain in 1927, and together they shared their music with the world.
After escaping Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938, the family toured internationally and eventually settled in Stowe, Vermont, where the mountains reminded them of home.
In 1949, Maria published her memoir, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, recounting her family’s escape from Austria, their musical journey, and their life in the United States. That book later inspired the Broadway musical and the beloved 1965 film The Sound of Music.
In 1950, they welcomed visitors to what became the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort, a magical place where faith, music, and togetherness are still celebrated today.
